Origin Story

What do you do with a really smart kid who has more energy than he knows what to do with, a kid whose creativity could get him in trouble if it wasn’t kept in check? That was the dilemma David’s parents faced. The answer was to keep both his mind and body occupied. David grew up playing sports year-round, taking piano lessons, and attending church. The sports helped mitigate the high energy. The piano lessons helped keep his mind focused. The church attendance gave David structure and a higher calling.

In 1996, David traveled with a school group and spent two weeks in Israel. The group not only toured the places David had read about in the Bible but also exposed him to working at an active archaeological dig and allowed him to crawl in and around the caves at Qumran where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. This was also the trip where David was kidnapped… but that is a story for a different time. David’s experience in Israel inspired his Matt Davenport fiction series which are all set in Israel and the Middle East.

David graduated from Erwin High School (1994), Birmingham-Southern College (1998), Rhema Bible Training College (2002 & 2003), and Life Christian University (2013).

Personality

David is a big kid at heart. He loves to laugh and is quick to tell a joke. He recently took a personality test and we think his results are spot on: “… a charismatic and inspiring personality type who often feels called to serve a greater purpose in life. [His personality type] feel a near-constant drive to expand, improve, and grow… often in the name of serving others. [His personality type] are inspiring optimists, readily taking action to do what they feel is right. These warm, forthright types love helping others and have the creative energy to achieve their goals. They’re imaginative, warm, empathic, and influential people, often playing the role of harmonizers. They are organized, decisive, and thorough, valuing structure and planning over spontaneity.”

We couldn’t have said it better if we tried.

Career

David has worked in the insurance and investment world for over 20 years, building one of the largest agencies in Alabama. He has multiple offices and a large working staff, but his passion is fulfilled when he is able to help others. That desire is how David’s first book, Juror #1: Investments for Life and Retirement, was born.

David is a successful entrepreneur and keynote speaker with a passion for writing suspense novels in light of current events. With his attention to detail and ability to make even the most complex concepts simple, David’s novels, Five Minutes to Live and Sixty Seconds of Silence, and non-fiction investment book, Juror #1: Investments for Life and Retirement, are consistently featured on bestselling lists.
